Faith Lift Friday

"God became one of us so that when we ask, "Lord, don't you care?" we can know without a doubt that he does".

"The fact is, until we stop doubting God's goodness, we can't experience God's love".

"Time and time again, over the course of history, agnosticism and atheism have fallen before the bedrock belief: God is. In our lifetime, we've seen a century of atheistic unbelief crumble along with the Soviet Union and the Berlin Wall. Contrary to Communist prediction, belief in God has definitely not died. In fact, the rise of atheistic states in the twentieth century did little except spur the growth of religion.
Since atheism has been less than effective, S---n has returned to another lie in his bag of tricks. If he can't make us doubt God's existence, S---n will do his best to make us doubt God's love. After he has distracted us...after he has discouraged us, S----'s final tactic is disillusionment and doubt.
"You're on your own, baby", he whispers to our loneliness. "See? God doesn't really care, or he would have shown up by now".
Nothing could be further from the truth, of course. (...) He [God] longs to trade the flimsy blankets of our own self-sufficiency for his all-sufficiency".

How many years I have spent looking for answers, rejecting the power of God, searching for my own strengths. Perhaps it was God who allowed me to do so , so that I may appreciate His gifts more...so that I know that all along He is my strength.

Faith Lift Fridays

Encourage others and yourself. Share a favorite scripture, devotional, quote, hymn...whatever has strengthened your faith and encouraged your heart.

Recently I have been following the paradigms of the bookHaving a Mary Heart in a Martha World: Finding Intimacy With God in the Busyness of Life, and I am trying to make space within the day for at least some spiritual reading. So before I go to bed I read a few pages from a book of Elder Paissios' sayings. I have read the chapter on prayer.
Here are a few lines that made me think. Having spent years on self-help seminars and books, I thought about how modern Christian faith is in its understanding of the human soul and its needs. Yet, on the other hand, how different is the departure point of each approach: human egotism as opposed to humility and the acceptance of grace.

"A Christian doing his daily tasks in prayer and peace becomes holy and so does the work of his hands".

"Some people go to a monastery, eat the food plain, without oil and they are impressed by the fact that it is so good, although it doesn't have any condinments.
While the cook is preparing the meal, he makes wishes and he prays, and he has good thoughts for those he is going to feed, and afterwards, during lunch on the communal table, there is prayer said. Then the food is being blessed. How could it be possible then for the food not to be tasty?"

"Live in the spirit of constantly giving thanks and glorifying God. Giving glory to God is the cure for depression".
