Thursday Thirteen-116th/my 5th edition

Thirteen Green AND Greek

It doesn't show on my new template but my blog's name is The Green Greek. So, listed below are thirteen Green, Greek or both. Enjoy.

1.Pride of place goes to Korres Natural Products for the opening of its first US store. A classic.

2.For bee and honey based natural products stop by Apivita. They began shipping to the US, too!
3.Along similar lines Mastic Spa is already there on Broadway, NY with its fragrant beauty products.
4.COCO-MAT is the leader in natural bedding, matresses, pillows and furniture in Greece. With a strong ethical value they are much loved in Spain, Belgium, The Netherlands and recently China. You may have actually slept in one of their beds in a Hilton, Sofitel or Club Med hotel!

5.If you are planning a trip to Greece, Michelin the Green Guide Greece (Michelin Green Guides) is a must.

6.Now, moving to food, may I present you the absolute classic of Greek cooking:The Greek Cookbook: The Crown Classic Cookbook Series (International Cook Book Series) My mother in law gave it to me as a present. It is not meat-free, but it is fail proof, and has many recipes with veggies.
7. Another classic in my library isThe Complete Book of Greek Cooking, which is special because it's Greek AMerican cooking at its very best.

8. Greek Cypriot Tessa Kyros' books are a feast for the eye as well as the body. Although she does have some imaginative, to be honnest and yummy meat recipes, her books read like short stories.Apples for Jam: Recipes for Life and Falling Cloudberries: A World of Family Recipes: Bk.2 can also be bought together as a Slipcase. She has also published the heartwarming Twelve: A Tuscan Cook Book.
9. Diane Kochilas is a chef and favorite food writer in the Greek papers. Her cooking is most charming and her meals Greek-chic.Try The Greek Vegetarian: More Than 100 Recipes Inspired by the Traditional Dishes and Flavors of Greece and The Food and Wine of Greece: More Than 300 Classic and Modern Dishes from the Mainland and Islands.

10. The Green Parent is my favorite magazine. Excellent info and resources and great reading.

11.What would life be without chocolate? My favorite Greek makers are ION.
12.And what would a gathering like this be without some great wine?
The superb, organic Spiropoulos wine from Arcadia is just perfect!

12+1. Τwo of the last surviving buildings of Athens, right next to the Acropolis, a fine example of 1930s Art Deco architecture and a a testament to the recent material and cultural memory of Greece are threatened with demolition. Please read more here and here and petition the authorities to stop. Thank you.

Thursday Thirteen-114th edition-my 4th-Wake Up! (on the right side)

Hello,
Today I am posting some ideas about how to put your best foot forward every day. I think I need the advice myself, that is why I find it interesting. Most of these suggestions are easy to implement if only we stop, breathe, and offer ourselves the gift of time. Sometimes I do all of these, sometimes I do one or two. What is important is starting your day with some self-care and definitively not in front of the TV set!

1.As soon as the alarm rings: Spend your first 15 seconds awake planning something nice to do for yourself today. This something can be talking to your potted flowers, watching the morning sky, sipping tea before everyone else wakes up.

2.Get up. The longer you lie there, the more your discontent grows about having to wake up so early and get soaked wet or face the burning heat, etc.

3.Strrreeetch. Think of cats stretching pleasurably, breath deeply and let the oxygen fill you up.

4.Drink. Make that two glasses of water upon awakening, the time when our bodies are dehydrated. Dehydration causes fatigue which affects your mood.

5. Go vertical. Make breakfast. Reach for the cup. Assign a book of affirmations or a favorite magazine for morning reading. Make it an appointment. Now reach for it. There.

6. Exercise. Well, yes...Now...Exercise is the number one way of chasing away a bad mood. If you have a sizeable garden you may go running and jumping around, saying hello to the birds. If you don't, opt for yoga. My 10 minute miracle is one of my best friends.

7. Take care of your body. Healthy mind in a health body, as the Ancient Greeks would have it. Jump in the shower. Fast, before you have second thoughts about the faulty heating. Brush, wash with an orange, satsuma or grapefruit scented soap and shampoo, and finish it off with a mildly cold shot of water. Now rub in your bathrobe, get out and get dressed. Remember to add something quirky, feminine, personal. Something you only know of, that makes you feel confident.

8.Have breakfast. And make it simple and satisfying. My favorite is green tea with honey and tahini on toast.

9.Investigate. If you feel dogged by anxiety try to pinpoint what's causing it. If you can figure out why you are upset, that's halfway to feeling better says aythor Alice Domar.

10. Write it down. Morning pages are a wonderful tool. Write down your worries and fears, your chagrins. For some reason they seem more manageable that way.

11.Be kind and thankful. Generocity and gratitude are both big contributors to happiness. Be thankful for having a roof over your head, for having a job to go to, for having kids to love and be loved, and hopefully a loving husband. That's alot to be thankful for...

12. Say your prayers. If you can feel thankful for your house, your job and your family, you must also be grateful for having someone greater than yourself to be thankful for, someone who loves you as you are,God. So say ypur prayers, read or say it by heart, concentrating on the words, on the feelings of connection with a mighty power.

13. Laugh at yourself. The best comedians point out the mundane aspects of life, they exaggerate those circumstances and give us a perspective we can lough about. Every morning I leve home carrying an extra set of clothes, meal for five in various Tupperware containers, plus my favorite book and magazine. So what? It;s like going on holiday every day!

Thursday Thirteen-111th Edition-Thessaloniki

Thirteen Beautiful Things I Did On Our Trip To Thessalonki.

1.Cried alot on the way. My unstable moods are to blame. But I don't care hiding it.
2.Thessaloniki has some great cafes, and they have some great loos. Like the one with antique basins and hardware, plus a touch of neon but with olde newspapers lit from the background. Talk about reading in the loo!
3.And look at those very tempting savons! So generous.
4.Walked around the International Trade Fair. C had been there as a kid. He remebered very vividly his first drink of black beer. So we had beer and saucages. And that was before lunchtime!
(It reads "It's a TIF tradition. Saucages and black beer go always together!")

5.This is the American pavillion.

6.I love Italian cars (and French, but that makes for another story). There were some exquisite Alfa Romeos and the brand new Fiats.
7.There was an exhibition of old tourist posters.
8.I got some ideas regarding work and home. My favorite image from the expo is this painting.

9.We had lunch at a great, and I mean G-R-E-A-T retaurant within the city's Byzantine castle. Its owners are from Cyprus and they make glorious Greek food.
10. The restaurant has great views over the city.

11. We took some lovely photos.
12. Then watched the results of the Greek general election. Very quiet election.
13. We women chatted all evening. And the morning after.
13+1. Does anyone know why Blogger does not spell check my entries?
Thank you for stopping by. Please click for more TT entries.
