Deodorant alternatives

Home Spa Lady posted some great ideas on natural alternatives to deodorants. Here is an idea I like:

–Combine baking soda, corn starch, and your favorite essential oil in a container and use under your arm.

When I was practicing Greek folk dance (as a child and until I got married), we were advised to put under our arms baking soda dilluted in a little water. So this one sounds like a good "grown up" alternative. I have also been using Pit Rock crystal stone. But this one sounds good, too.

We are Nature

I believe we did not need any more info to know that chemicals are dangerous substances when used, as they currently are, uncontrollably in all forms of human activity.

Disregarding ethics in favor of profit and violating the eternal laws of Nature, agricultural production is being transformed into a nightmare scenario, putting in danger biodiversity, nations' independence and people's lives.

Now, a new study suggests that agricultural workers exposed to high levels of pesticides have a raised risk of brain tumours.

There is no doubt that ethical, fair trade and bio products are the way to the survival of our planet and life as we know and love it.

And that beyond making wise choices as to what we spend our money on and what we feed and clothe our children with, we must decide in our minds about how we view the world. We need to visualise ourselves as Nature, love, respect and show lovingkindness to all living beings. And that in itself is a revolution.

Prince ridiculed and candid

I read this post on BBC, about Prince Charles' efforts to promote environmental issues and the protection of some endangered species of animals and plants in Britain.

"I have been going on for all these years to a chorus of ridicule about the importance of protecting and preserving rare native breeds of cattle, sheep, pig and chicken," he said.

I am not a fan of the Prince, particularly over his choices in his personal life, but over the years, I have increasingly appreciated his stand over such issues such as architecture, national heritage, biodiversity and the protection of local species. There still is so much richness around us, that it is an insult, a sin, an "agos" as the Ancient Greeks would call it, toward Nature, Life, God, whatever you call it, to increasingly depend on laboratory enhanced breeds and seeds that are only good enough for a season, then they become infertile so that you have to buy again from the large conglomerates or that they become the cannibals that eat the bones and flesh of their own kind.

If you live in the UK, hear the interview in full on Gardeners' Question Time on BBC Radio 4 at 1400 GMT on Sunday 8 April.
